It has been forever since I updated on the chaos that is my life.
I spent the greater part of the past few months doing my student teaching and frantically trying to weave in court dates amidst the craziness. The kids are getting bigger and bigger and well the drama has multiplied as well....
Our first court date was in August as most of you know and we were carried over until mid October. When we returned to court in October we were yet again deferred to the end of November. We were held up due to the court having to investigate the situation further and determine if Danae was in fact willing to be adopted. So a few days before Turkey Day the investigator came...did her thing...and viola!!! The following week we recieved the report that specified that Danae did in fact wish to be adopted by me and that she would be able to verbalize things in court.
To bring a smile to my face I was told by our beloved attorney that we should be in the Aces once we reconvene in Feb. and Danae told Dawn on Christmas that she was in fact looking forward to the adoption!!! This is going to be great..I can't wait to see the steam in person. Ironically the most important witness that Dawn has is Terese. This should be interesting to see what facts they twisted to their advantage and to see whose side the judge favors....
This blog has been created to document the journey of three families dealing with custody issues. One person, Dawn, feels that her actions are irreperable and that all but her are at fault. Every account is 100% factual although many are hard to believe. Enjoy the ride!

Crazy...I Was Crazy Once
I am sitting here and contemplating the rumors that are currently circulating concerning the impending court date and still baffled at the audacity of Dawn's theory that our allegations are unfounded. How is it that you claim to be a great parent when you do not make a distinct effort to raise or even have communication with your child?
So I amuse myself thinking of Dawn crying in her cornflakes and @#!*% that her life is so crappy. When will this woman realize that your life is what you make it. Her life is @#!*% because she made it that way. I apologize for the vulgarity of my language but right now I am appalled at the recent events.
Dawn's step-father has been posting on her website. Oh yes the website!!! Dawn began a website for the purposes of obtaining information and soliciting funds for the return of Michelle to California from Canada. Newsflash when more than one person says you are a @#!*% parent you probably are!
In any event we were amused to find we were important enough to her and her family to be referenced several times. Apparently we are all the reasons for Dawn's inability to raise her own children. Guess what animals that eat their young are better parents than this woman.
So ends my rant for today...

Am I Ready for This?
A court of law is a tricky place. There is no way to predetermine whether or not someone is going to empathize with your plight. At this point in our court room experience we are in a position where no matter what we do someone will get hurt. It is not always easy to terminate someones rights and be okay with it and I would be lying if I said that I was. Telling someone that they are such a @#!*% parent that you are publicly asking someone to advocate that statement is not an easy pill to swallow for anyone.
The wrath that we are about to take on is enormous and man that dragon is going to put up a @#!*% of a fight. Abandonment is a big issue and a huge burden to prove. So I guess only time will tell...

Rollercoaster Ride
So we are going to fast forward to 2000 when Dawn finally either came to the realization that her parenting skills fell below that of an animal or her mother finally fed up with seeing Danae live in squalor took a stand and forced Dawn's hand into allowing Danae to live with her on a "temporary" basis. Knowing the evil that dances around that woman's brain I am going with option #2.
Anthony was contacted and told that if he agreed to the situation that Danae would be left in Terese's care until such time that one or both of her parents could take care of her. Easy peasy right? Wrong? You would think that this would be a cut and dry situation...think again friends...think again.
Anthony and Dawn signed the paperwork and willingly gave Danae over to Terese in the form of a guardianship so that she could have an opportunity to grow up in an environment that was safe, stable, and full of love. While Terese and her husband loved Danae and catered to her every whim her home life was far from safe and stable. Anthony tried to visit with Danae and to his disappointment he was not allowed at Terese's home. After a few more failed attempts to see his daughter he eventually started losing hope and gave up. On the other hand Dawn was permitted to come in and out of the home and take Danae as she pleased.
You are probably sitting there saying well she is the mother...but that is like saying you are going to let your kid go run in traffic or get eaten by wolves. Time goes on and while Danae is under the guardianship of Terese, Dawn takes it upon herself to live her life to the fullest meeting men, having a few drinks, and pumping her body full of powders and fluids that would make C.S.I. blush.
During the "wild period" is when Dawn met John...

It's A Love Story
Here we go again still unfolding the beginning of this dramatic all too true tale of terror. Shortly after beginning their new relationship Anthony and Dawn conceived a child. However, no one was aware that this was the case except for Dawn. She kept her pregnancy a secret from everyone while she proceeded to drink heavily on a daily basis at the tender age of sixteen. One can only wonder where her parents were while she managed to be a teenage pregnant alcoholic, but alas that is a whole other story which we will address at a later time. Thinking as many teens do that maybe they were mistaken about being pregnant Dawn took another pregnancy test which she left in the trash of her bathroom. Unbeknownst to Dawn her mother Terese found the evidence of her impending motherhood.
While Terese and Anthony thought that he was the only gentleman in Dawns life they were both mistaken. Although she was aware and condoned a sexual relationship between Anthony and her daughter Terese when she found out that Dawn was pregnant chose to pursue statutory rape charges against Anthony. Anthony was promptly arrested and taken to the county jail for processing. However, once interviewed by the police Dawn specified that the sexual relationship that the two shared was one that was consensual. Anthony who was now nearly 19 had the charges dropped to sex with a minor as both he and Dawn’s relationship was one that was well known within the law enforcement community due to their participation in the program for young adults.
Dawn and Anthony were forbidden from seeing one another. The days passed and Dawn’s belly grew and grew as she continued to drink and drink. On March 18, 1998 their daughter Danae was born happy and healthy with the exception of the fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) that she was born with courtesy of her mother’s preferred prenatal care. Anthony was not there when Danae was born. After being arrested for having his relationship with Dawn he was informed that Dawn was unaware of the father of her baby. According to her there were 5 potential fathers. Yes, I said 5. How a 16 year old could be so freaking promiscuous is absolutely beyond me but once the story progresses and you realize what we are dealing with you might begin to understand.
This story is just beginning. As if things couldn’t get any worse Terese became very involved with Danae and her upbringing as she and Dawn lived with her and her husband Ralph. By 2 months old Danae had been moved nearly 6 times between 4 different states, child protective services was involved in her well being by age 6 months, and in her first year Danae has had lice approximately 5 times. At 9 months old there was a paternity test done on all men and it was conclusively proven that Anthony was Danae’s father. Although Anthony was not able to finally meet his daughter for the first time until she was 14 months old. Throughout the first year there were major milestones not met and no one was absolutely sure as to why. Once the questions were asked and answered more about Danae’s health came into focus, however, in the very near future Danae’s world would be turned upside down.
I get that this post is incredibly dry. I promise that it gets better!!!

Casting Call
Character identification is a must for this story. Trust me. If you cannot follow who everyone is then you will be unable to follow this tale of torture. Let’s start from the beginning.
My husband Anthony was 15 at the time that he met Dawn for the first time. Dawn was a developing 13 year old. The first time the two met was when they both were participating in a local law enforcement group for teens preparing to enter into this profession after high school. Anthony while very curious about girls wanted to remain friends with both Dawn and her sister Felicia. However, as time progressed the girls began competing for Anthony’s affection. Anthony’s mother Tilly warned him to be wary of the two girls so adamantly competing over his attention. Shortly thereafter the phone calls began; and we’re not talking one or two 30 minute calls a day. The calls were call after call after call after call until Tilly was nearly prepared to remove the telephone from the wall.
Anthony began to date Felicia as she had won the first battle. Yet watching from the sidelines Dawn vowed that while Felicia won the battle in the end she would win the war. Felicia, Dawn and Anthony continued to participate in the law enforcement group as time passed ever so slowly. After continued taunting by Dawn about Anthony; Felicia was pushed to the point where she ended the relationship. So with Dawn age 16 and Anthony age 18 the two began to date and this is where the real drama began….

In the Beginning...
In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth. Or for those who are non-religous one day we showed up on this planet...so you get the drift. At some point in life there is a beginning to every story and this is the story of Dawn, her iteractions with the fathers of her children, and eventually Cheryl and I the stepmothers to her two daughters. All stories begin harmless and this one is no different. However, no one ever thought that this account would have spun into the mind numbing daily chore that it has become.
